Description: Large-scale city maps published for use by local fire insurance companies who would purchase the maps from Sanborn-Perris Map Company. The maps conentrate on the commercial districts of the city and include, with the use of color coding and symbols, such information as the type of building (whether stone, brick, or wood), the use of the building, the presence of night security staff, type of heating and lighting, and the presence of fire fighting equipment. Most maps include an index to streets and special buildings on the first page. The State Historical Society of Wisconsin holds the original copies of these maps as well as the microfilm negative (Micro 785).
